VNA of Somerset Hills Board of Trustees member Dorothy J. DeMaio, RN, Ed.D., FAAN, was honored on March 22 at the 21st annual Outstanding Women in Somerset County awards dinner. A resident of Far Hills, she was recognized for her extensive healthcare contributions to our community.
Dr DeMaio has served on the VNA Board since 2008. As Dean and professor of the Rutgers University College of Nursing for 14 years, she was founder of the first nurse practitioner program in New Jersey, the first mobile unit for child health care, the first nursing PhD. Program in New Jersey and the first international faculty/student exchange program with Middlesex University in London. She continues at Rutgers as a member of a Presidential Advisory Council . In addition to the VNA, her local leadership service includes the Board of Trustees of the Clarence Dillon Library, the Far Hills Board of Health and the Far Hills Representative to the Somerset Hills School District.
Sponsored by the county Commission on the Status of Woman in celebration of Women’s History Month, the awards recognized 21 women who live or work in Somerset County.
