Dietician – Per diem

JOB SUMMARY: Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates and evaluates the nutrition component of the agency’s services.

REPORTS TO: Vice President of Operations

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Registered Dietician, Master’s Degree in Nutrition or in Public Health Nutrition preferable
  • Current New Jersey Drivers License

EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of two years recent experience as a Registered Dietician in the clinical or public health areas.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of VNA mission, philosophy, policies and programs
  • Knowledge of principles of nutrition and ability to determine client’s nutrition status
  • Knowledge of the influence of social, cultural and psychological factors on nutrition-related behavior
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Ability to apply current technology to nutrition services and programs
  • Ability to appropriately record nutrition/health data
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement techniques of group presentation

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as a consultant to the staff, evaluate patients’ diet histories on a timely basis and provide indicated follow-up by phone, home or office visits
  • Provide diet counseling and informational materials, develop therapeutic diets, interpret dietary requirements, and assist with meal planning for patients
  • Offer patient/caregiver the opportunity to a joint shopping trip to a food market of their choice for further dietary instruction
  • Accurately document all patient encounters including; visits, phone consultations, or office visits in the electronic health record
  • Participate in the orientation of new members of the staff to nutrition services of the agency
  • Evaluate and interpret current nutrition information and materials, select and/or develop nutrition education materials
  • Update and keep current office nutritional information materials, books and literature
  • Assist agency staff in strengthening knowledge and skills in nutrition practice through conferences and continuing education programs
  • Interpret, evaluate and utilize pertinent current research relating to nutritional care
  • Provide information on over-the-counter herbal supplements, particularly as related to interactions with medications and diet
  • Act as a nutritional consultant to residents at community clinics when requested
  • Serve on agency committees as requested
  • Establish channels of communication with appropriate community personnel
  • Keep knowledge current and maintain Registered Dietician status through participation in continuing education
