Senior Accountant

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for the monthly general ledger close, balance sheet, income statement and statement of cash flows preparation and analysis; and the monthly updating of the financial statements presentation for the Vice President of Finance and Business. The Senior Accountant is also responsible for the monthly calculations of the management fee and labor cost allocations and related journal entries, annual budget preparation and monthly budget variance analysis, forecasts, proformas and other analyses as required/assigned.

REPORTS TO: Vice President of Finance & Business

ESSENTIAL SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Full responsibility of the general ledger month-end close and preparation of the monthly
    balance sheet, income statement and statement of cash flows and analysis of all general ledger accounts and budget variances
  • Full responsibility for the preparation of General Ledger entries and reconciliations
    for month-end closing to close books in an accurate and timely manner
  • Full responsibility for analyzing financial statements on a monthly basis and
    reporting on variances
  • Preparation of monthly account analysis of balance sheet and income statement
    accounts; with a summary of pertinent explanatory notes
  • Preparation of annual budgets
  • Account for and maintain Fixed Assets and related depreciation consistent with Company policies and procedures
  • Assist in documentation and monitoring of internal controls
  • Ownership of the internal financial statements and external annual financial audit process and audited financial statements, including the preparation of general ledger subsidiary/other schedules, audited financial statements, footnotes and supplemental information
  • Other duties/projects as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting or related field with five to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong understanding of accounting theory
  • Strong knowledge of all accounting functions and related internal controls, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, investments, reserves and fixed assets
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and willingness to research and resolve accounting
    issues/concerns
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Auditing skills, with the ability to research and reconcile difficult accounts
  • Maintains general and subsidiary ledgers, accounts receivable, revenue recognition and distribution, depreciation, costs, property, operating expenses, and insurance applications/records
  • Performs cost analyses and rate studies.
  • Prepares statements and reports of estimated future costs and revenues
  • Establishes system controls for new financial systems and develops procedures to improve existing systems
  • Prepares external audit materials and external financial reporting;
  • Reviews monthly financial statements and related analyses with Vice President of Finance and Business
  • Assists in the installation and maintenance of new accounting, timekeeping, payroll, inventory, property, and other related procedures and controls

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Excellent written, verbal, communication, and interpersonal skills with a customer
    service focus
  • Strong computer skills with exceptional knowledge and experience of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word a must
  • Detail oriented and organized in work
  • Ability to meet assigned deadlines
  • Working knowledge of grant accounting
  • Working knowledge of cost/profit center accounting
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees,
